1. What on earth's an inverter...why do we need one...?

If you're looking for a 2.5 to 10.8 (heating) kW Split-System Air Conditioner which:
  • is the latest technology by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Japan - founded in 1870 and 130 years 'young'
  • automatically changes compressor and fan speeds in sync with the environment - it doesn't keep clicking on and off
  • is designed to last - the compressor wears in instead of wearing out (SRK50)
  • compared with any equivalent conventional system -
    • has 30% more heating capacity
    • is the quietst both inside and outside
    • uses the least possible electricity
    • is the most compact in size
    • creates more living comfort
  • is a Galaxy Energy product award winner (SRK35ZAA)
why buy anything else?

2. What's The Heating Capacity?

With almost 10,800 watts maximum, the flagship model SRK80ZEA-S has 30% more capcity than any similar size unit.

3. What's The Cooling Capacity?

SRK80ZEA-S has 8,400 watts maximum capacity - equal to any comparable air conditioner.

4. How Are They Effected By Climate & Environment Variables?

The sun's position, wind velocity, humidity both inside and outside, people moving in and out of the house, activities ranging from sleeping to cooking or exercising - are all part of an infinitely varying environment. Until now, single speed air conditioning based on expected daily maximum and minimum temperatures could be adjusted only by varying its run time. At low loads it frequently cycles on and off; at high loads it never stops.

With the MHI Inverter, compressor speed and resulting heating or cooling output vary infinitely to match these ever-changing conditions. At low loads, the compressor barely turns over, at high loads it goes flat out. It never stops but reaches the desired comfort level more quickly and quietly and then idles - maintaining the level closely and imperceptibly.

Also, for the SRK50 Series, the outdoor unit features the DD (direct discharge) scroll compressor. (This is also part of the SCM45ZA model from the SKM companion range of multi-split system inverters.) The DD Scroll is a more advanced compressor with less moving parts and the highest precision levels. Refrigerant pressure remains constant, the coefficient of performance remains at 100% even after a decade of use and the refrigerant path is shortened. This means longer life, lower maintenance, speedier starts and even lower sound levels.

5. What's The Electricity Usage?

Running cost is the lowest possible. MHI Inverters starts at low current draw and continue with the minimum - varying with conditions instead of flat out until the desired temperature is reached (then turning off until the temperature varies a set amount before turning on again). They never 'over-heat' or 'over-cool'. Only the exact amount of power needed has to be paid for.

6. What's The Purchase Cost?

Less than 10% more than a conventional unit - soon recovered in lower operating and maintenance costs.

7. What About Humidity?

The flagship SRK50 Series has a humidity sensor unique to MHI. This is an industry first - no other unit on the market has this feature. It automatically adjusts to allow for humidity variations without changing the room temperature.

8. What About Reliability?

The MHI Inverter is designed to cope with extreme outdoor conditions. It cools in summer to outdoor emperatures up to 43 degrees C. It heats in winter in outdoor temperatures as low as -15 degrees C.

9. What's The Air Flow Like?

Because the unit operates continuously, air flow is constant - minimising the occurence of layers and pockets of unconditioned air. And, during heating phases, there are no spasmodic cold draughts.

10. What About Maintenance?

Parts, labour and compressor are covered by a five-year total warrenty.

11. What This About Longer Life?

The most advanced technologically designed compressor features less pressure on moving parts and maintains a constant refrigerant pressure. The compressor actually wears in instead of wearing out (SRK50, SCM45 models). After 10 years, effiency remains at 100%.

12. How Do I Clean The Unit?

Indoor unit panels can be opened easily, and even removed. The SRK has three levels of filtration. The conventional filter removes dust and particles. The Allergen Filter destroys various fungi and bacteria. The Photocatalytic filter deodorizes is washable and reusable. The indoor fan has an Antibacterial treatment ensuring the air from the indoor unit remains clean and odour free.

13. Are They Flexible?

The SKM companion range of multi-split system inverters feature seven indoor and three outdoor models. Up to four indoor units can be run off a single outdoor unit - the choice of indoor units determines the correct outdoor unit required. This enables the creation of indoor zones with different settings, such as a day zone for living areas and a night zone for bedrooms. Now you can air condition a whole house with a single system.

14. What About Flats, Apartments and Units?

The inverter range and its many features are very suitable for multi-occupancy buildings. Bodies Corporate 'love em'. They use less power and are the quietest on the market, the SRK25ZDXA-S has a Star rating of 10.4

15. What maintenance is necessary?

It is essential that filters be cleaned on a regular basis. In times of frequent use, filters should be removed from the unit and vacuumed or washed in warm soapy water every two weeks. For residential use air conditioners, an annual service call with an accredited air conditioning service company is highly recommended to ensure longevity of the unit. In commercial situations a monthly service call is recommended.

16. Who should I get to install my air conditioner?

Due the fact that air conditioners contain an ozone depleting substance, the refrigerant, and require an electrical connection to a dedicated circuit, only a licensed NRAC (National Refrigeration Air conditioning Council) installer and an A grade electrician should be used.

17. Is it noisy?

All air conditioners make noise and it is measured in a variety of ways by different manufacturers. The environment in which the condenser (outdoor) is located in has a great effect on your perception of noise. If noise is a concern for you ideally you should ask your retailer/installer to see/hear a similar unit in operation.

Example: If the condenser is located in a paved courtyard and surrounded by concrete and/or bricks, the sound generated by the unit will not be absorbed and will bounce off the surfaces -increasing the perception of noise. If the condenser is located in a soft environment such as a garden or with plenty of space around it, the sound emitted will be less obvious.
